can drug abuse cause infertility?
I am recovering addict. I used to be a heavy drinker and it went hand in hand with a terrible smoking habit. Am now 26 years of age and I have been sober for 1 year 4 months and 16 days. I recently got engaged to my long time boyfriend. We fell in love when I was an addict, I stopped he didnít. I love him and I canít let his addiction be the reason to ruin what we have built together. The reason to my writing is that I read somewhere that these addictions can lead to infertility. How true is this? Because it has been my dream to be a mom and I know he will be a great father 1 rubynorris

I did not exactly get what you meant by an 'addict'. Anyway, of course, drugs, alcohol, and smoking might and actually do harm your reproductive health and your husband's one. There are a lot of research studies proving that drug-addicted women struggle with getting pregnant. If planning the family, you better get rid of those unwanted obstacles that might hurt your baby. If we are talking about marijuana, it might influence your ovulation and infertility. If your boyfriend is smoking now, it affects men's reproductive health even more. So, it is simple and clear as it is. You both need to stop taking anything or even drink less in order to start a family and give a birth to a healthy kid! 2 momnikki

Hello, honestly, I'm shocked, of course !! Not only cause infertility, but also greatly harm your life. Unless a drug can change something. It's just an illusion. I believe that most of me will support. Do not use drugs, they are a direct way to the abyss. Stay healthy!! Be happy! 7 alexxas

Of course it can cause infertility! In both of you! Drugs are one of the first reasons of infertility. This change your menstrual cycles, your ovulation and increase the risk of miscarriage. Also, if you get pregnant, your baby can born with cardiac problems and others sickness. In mens, changes the production of sperms. Drugs affect his fertility as much as can affect yours. If you want to conceive a healthy baby, you and him have to stop consuming. Drinking alcohol and smoking cause issues too. I recommend you to go to an help center. They will help you with your boyfriend and with other issues you may have. Also, you can go to a doctor after he stop with drugs. Doctor will tell you what you can do for the healthy of the baby. You have to know that it took a while for you body to recover from drugs. You should be secure that both of you are perfectly healthy before start conceiving. It's not impossible. With help and consistency you can get pregnant succesfully. I wish you the best Xx 8 emiraven1

Well ... Addictions cause many health problems. Infertility is one of them. The best thing to do is to give up smoking, not to drink a drop of alcohol, to substitute coffee for decaffeination, and of course, no drugs. It is something that affects the fertility of both. So to be a father. First I would recommend going to a fertility clinic. There they would do a series of exams to both. Depending on the results, the doctor will tell you if you are eligible for a fertility treatment. When the couple thinks about looking for a child, they must be aware that, from that moment, they have to consider a healthy life. It is always possible to achieve a more balanced diet and eliminate the intake of certain substances whose daily consumption can interfere with pregnancy. Good luck. 9 nickalawad

hello congratulations on your addiction progress.Yes since nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, meaning it constricts your blood vessels including those in your reproductive system and can also lower the odds of getting pregnant. 11 Linda Larson

Smoking alone can cause infertility. Imagine what stronger substances can do. So yes. Short answer is YES. Long answer is complicated. Some people have a weird metabolism. It can clear the toxins left from the strongest drugs. Some other can get lung cancer just by being exposed to tobacco often. It's kind of a gamble. A very unfair one. At the end of the day the odds are you'll lose 99% and 1% you'll go away with it. Try helping your bf qutting. It's not only about infertility. It will cause you many many things. Troubles of all sorts. I know this sounds bad, and I sound like a for saying this, but... If he continues like this the wise things would be to break up with him. I know it sounds cruel! It's a truth that you'll face sooner or later. Wish you all the best. Much love xx 12 toddlerlover

Hello rubynorris, There are a lot of causes for infertility. The erratic lifestyle, inadequate sleep, constant stress, unhealthy diet, etc...you get my drift. These factors play with your hormones, which can eventually cause infertility. If you notice, there are more cases of infertility now than years ago. Back in the days, lives weren't hectic as they are now. Drug abuse is something that isn't good for your body. I'm sure you know that by now. So something which can cause harm to your body can maybe also cause infertility, perhaps not directly, but maybe there could be an indirect effect. So if you have a doubt, it's best to consult a fertility specialist than guess if drug abuse could be the cause. Hope you find your answers soon! All the best rubynorris... 13 walterjohnson

Warm regards to everyone reading and posting, First of all, I would like to congratulate you. It is one big a deal to decide to be sober. I wish you a happy life ahead. It is a very beautiful life God has given us, and, we must respect and live it with our eyes and mind open. Coming back to your question of concern. My dear, I am very sad to state this, but yes! Drugs, alcohol and smoking have side effects on each and every organ in our body. These are like terrorists in our body that hack away all of our body mechanism and destroy it completely. Drugs and alcohol are the prime reason for causing infertility in most of the couples, today. Well, it isn't promised if getting sober can help completely, but yes given time and proper care body can adjust back to its normal state sooner or later. But the damage that has been done, will take a very long time to recover. Also, if you happened to get impregnated in future, I would suggest you make sure you are completely sober because being on any kind of drug or foreign material during your whole duration of pregnancy can cause serious threats to the child. Generally, children of drug/alcohol addict parents are born with genetic defects, because the bodies of the parents have become highly toxic to make healthy babies. I would suggest not getting pregnant until before your partner is sober, too. So that at least you are sure to bring a healthy child into the world. Everyone out there, please realize that this is all toxic. For you and your upcoming generation. I wish you all the best in future. Take care. 15 aandycooper

Hi Itís good that you gave up drugs because it is not doing any good to you and your future baby. You must visit your gynecologist and discuss your problems with her. I am sure you will be successful one day in your baby planning. But, if your partner is still addicted then it can also create infertility. There are many ways that you can try to stop his addiction to drugs. Well, talking of harmful effects of drugs on fertility. Yes, it is very harmful as it can make you unhealthy and can interfere with your menstrual cycle. It can also reduce the fertility of egg by decreasing the size of your egg. It is very harmful to the pregnant ladies and can lead to miscarriage too. It is also bad for your partner as it can reduce the sperm count. It can also reduce the motility of the sperm and can make your partner impotent. However, there are many other things also which needs to be avoided in order to have a good fertility. These include: - drinking alcohol, smoking, caffeine contained products, tobacco, coffee etc. These are the things that are not good for fertility and these many things are also not good for any personís health. A healthy body can only give birth to a healthy child. Do Exercise regularly to reduce all the harmful effects of drugs. Eat a healthy and a balanced diet and drink plenty of water. Through drugs, toxicity in your body increases and this toxicity can be removed by drinking a lot of water. Try to add different colored fruits and dry fruits in your diet. 18 panchal

Women are generally more vulnerable to the long-term physical effects of drugs and alcohol compared to men. Drug use can harm the reproductive system and impact women. The drug may alter a womanís menstrual cycle and may result in lighter or heavier menstrual periods and increased cramping. Intravenous drug use puts women at risk of contracting infections and diseases transmitted through the blood, including HIV/AIDS. This may harm a womanís fertility. 21 amaya

Maybe that becomes the reason. Infertility is spreading. So we must be careful. I was not drug addicted. But still, I am unable to get pregnant. I was having the problem of PCOS. I have taken the treatment for that. But after marriage, I am unable to become a mother. I want to become a mother desperately. My husband also loves children. I am now planning for surrogacy. Please suggest me. This is the reason I am here. 22 NitaZayne

Infertility can be caused by that also. My question is if someone has the abortion history it can also cause infertility? I have 2 abortions in the history. I do not want children that time. This is the reason I abort them. Now I have got married to the person I love. He loves to have children. I have tried every fertility treatment. But nothing happened till now. Please suggest me something. Should I go for surrogacy? Ukraine has the low prices. what do you say? 23 MiaLucas

Hi dear. The drug can harm you pretty bad trust me. It has a lot of worst effects like Drug and alcohol use may alter a womanís menstrual cycle and may result in lighter or heavier menstrual periods and increased cramping. intravenous drug use puts women at risk of contracting infections and diseases transmitted through the blood, including HIV/AIDS, which may harm a womanís fertility. Heavy alcohol use is also linked to higher rates of contracting STDs that may damage the reproductive system and/or hinder the ability to get pregnant. Women under the influence of drugs and alcohol may be more likely to put themselves in harmful situations that increase their risk of contracting STDs. Women who abuse alcohol and other drugs may put themselves in risky situations where they are more likely to contract an STD, which, depending on the infection, may contribute to cancer. For example, the human papillomavirus (HPV) is linked to increased cervical cancer risk. Drugs and alcohol are also related to infertility in women. One study found that females who are heavy alcohol users are more likely to experience fertility problems compared to low and moderate alcohol users. Women who use tobacco products may also be at risk for fertility issues and delayed conception. Substance use may impact sexual arousal, pleasure, and desire in women. Specifically, heavy alcohol use can decrease vaginal lubrication and the ability to achieve an orgasm. STDs resulting from risky behaviors associated with substance use may also impact sexual desire. There are more in men too. Now I used to have some issues with my pregnancy too but all got solved when I met with the doctors of Lotus Clinic in Ukraine. You can consult them on any pregnancy-related matter. Hope it will help someone. 25 nisha332
