We are naming our daughter Abigail for several reasons. First, we both favored older names that may have gone out of fashion; but, are making a comeback. Second, we both have short names and always envied people with variations like Rob, Bob, Bobby, etc. Third, we love the history behind it. We hope our "Abby" grows up to be a strong independant woman like some of these from the past. For example, the Old Testament references an Abigail who was wise and gave sagely advice to her husband, King David, which is even more impressive considering the times. Also, First Lady, Abigail Adams, was known for the letters she exchanged with President John Adams where they debated both intellectual & political ideas and was so active politically that the press referred to her as "Mrs. President." Our lil' future president was conceived during the honeymoon in Hawaii. We joked her name should make reference to this such as Maui, Pineapple, or Lahaina. We were surprised to find that there is actually a rich legacy of Hawaiian princesses named Abigail. Princess Abigail Kawānanakoa was considered Head of the Hawaiian Royal Family at one point and served as The Republican National Committeewoman for 12 years. Her prominence on the national stage made her a role model amongst the women of Hawaii. Lastly, I had a feeling she's gonna be Daddy's Girl so when I heard her name means "Father's Joy" that sealed it for me - but don't tell my wife that ;)

Abigail Lucy is the name we gave to our daughter almost 21 years ago. I think the name rolls off the tongue rather well.

I think Abigail is a great name since that is my name and even though it's kinda common at least people don't mispronounce it a lot. I was so glad when my parents named me abigail. It has a great meaning.

We love this name as a first name for our 2nd daughter, but are having such a tough time choosing a middle name for it. I want Lynne but her Dad doesn't like that so I'm stumped :(
